SAIL magazine - 1983. The word on the street is that Willard Boat Company in Costa Mesa, CA have put together a real throughbred sailboat named Compadre. Owned by the Wright family of Naples island, Long beach, the boat surpasses everything on the water in its category, by leaps and bounds.
In 2009, Compadre changed hands from her original owners to ours and the refit to bring her up to date began in Long Beach. Jim worked long hours and many months taking care of all the major and minor requirements to have her ship shape before pushing off into blue water surrounds. Her maiden passage took us down through the doldrums to the Marquesas in March 2010.
From Vanuatu Compadre sailed up to the Solomons spending time revisiting islanders and friends across the island chain. Early 203 saw her readied for the crossing over to Fiji where she sailed out the rest of 2013. The future looks exciting and destinations can be found here.
Our first passage went smoothly and after a 20 day passage, Compadre rode her anchor off of Fatu Hiva. For the rest of the year she made her way slowly West to Raiatea when the second passage began headed even deeper West into Melanesia and the island nation of Vanuatu
